“We are very pleased to elect Melinda to the position of Vice-Chairwoman, on what I believe is a highly qualified Board of Directors,” said Steve Politakis, President/CEO, “Melinda is the fourth woman in her family to hold this position in over 90 years. I am confident she will contribute significantly, and continue to build upon her mother’s legacy by helping lead Kitsap Bank into an exciting time in our history.”

The Langer family’s 90- year commitment to Kitsap Bank began in 1922 when Frank E. Langer Jr. purchased controlling interest in the bank. Upon his death, Frank’s wife, Hannah Norum Langer, was elected the fifth president of the bank, thereby becoming the first female bank president west of the Mississippi river. Hannah served as the Kitsap Bank’s president for twenty years, and continued on as Chairman of the Board until 1986. Helen Langer Smith served as Kitsap Bank’s Chairman of the Board from 1986 to 2011 when she succeeded her mother, Hannah Langer.
